Applied Research in Action (ARIA)

ARIA is Toronto’s leading research and technology innovation showcase, hosted by the University of Toronto’s Department of Computer Science.

At the centre of Canada’s tech ecosystem, the department drives global impact through groundbreaking research, world-class teaching and a legacy of shaping tomorrow’s digital industries.

ARIA brings that excellence to life.

Each year, U of T students, faculty and its industry collaborators present cutting-edge projects that tackle real-world challenges — from AI in health care and sustainability to robotics, fintech, logistics and more. The showcase spotlights the creativity and technical expertise of students while underscoring powerful partnerships with industry leaders, government and academic peers.

Through programs like the Master of Science in Applied Computing (MScAC), students partner with top companies to co-develop transformative solutions that advance both research and industry. These collaborations span space robotics, financial AI, education technology and next-generation enterprise software — proof of how the department fuels innovation across sectors.

ARIA goes beyond a showcase. It connects.

It bridges academia and industry, bringing together bold ideas, breakthrough research and the next generation of tech talent. Attendees gain rare access to exceptional students, faculty and partners from across Computer Science, Statistical Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
